Reflection from prior lesson:  From previous lessons, we have decided that our students like to catch, throw and run; however, throwing techniques could be improved.

Lesson Goal(s) / Standards:

-          Standard one:  Students will develop competency in all fundamental movement skills and proficiency in some movement forms.

o   Indicator 1: Students will model complex locomotor movement patterns in specialized activities.

o   Indicator 2: Students will apply correct technique when performing complex manipulative movement patterns in specialized activities.

o   Indicator 3: Students will exhibit a mature kinesthetic sense in non-locomotor/stability movement patterns in specialized activities.

Lesson Objectives:

Objective:

Assessment of Objective:

The students will use locomotor movement.

Have the students run from the black line to the blue line.  Once they have reached the blue line, touch it with their hands and run back.  After, have them skip to the same black line and back.

The students will apply correct technique when performing complete manipulative movement patterns.

With the different balls provided, have the students throw to each other with 50% accuracy.

Materials Needed:

o   A bag containing:

§  Bean bags

§  Stress balls

§  Pom poms

§  Beach balls

§  Tape rolls

A.  The Lesson

1.       Introduction

·         getting attention

·         relating to past experience and/or knowledge

·         creating a need to know

·         sharing objective, in general terms

2.       Content Delivery:

Begin

-          To Start – stretching arms (for throwing) and stretch down to the ground

-          To burn off some energy, have the students run from the black line, touch the blue and run back to the black.

o   Do a couple more times as a race

o   Try again, except have the students skip instead of run.

Middle

-          Throwing:

o   Start with bean bags, and have the students throw to each other.

§  Try throwing underhand and overhand.

§  Break off with individual students and work on different techniques for throwing

·         Underhand

·         Overhand

·         Under leg

·         For distance

o   Have the students throw the beach ball to each other.

§  Have one student throw and have the other try to hit it.

§  Break off into individual students and work with beach ball

·         Teacher throws with student back and forth

·         Have the student throw the beach ball to the teacher to demonstrate hitting the beach ball using different methods:

o   Bumping

o   Setting (pushing when explaining to them)

o   Hitting

·         Switch rolls and allow student to try hitting the ball.

o   Small Soft  Balls

§  Have the students throw to each other.  Start out about 5 feet apart.

·         Have the students take two steps back and see if they can still make it there.  Continue on until the distance gets to be too great for them.

o   Pom Poms

§  Have the student toss the pom pom back and forth with the teacher.

·         This is an odd shaped object, for more of a challenge.

o   Tape Rolls

§  Have the teacher and student sit on the floor with legs spread apart and roll the tape between their legs.

§  With time, make the gap between legs smaller and see if student can still make it

·         To be enthusiastic, give student “ points” with each one made

o   Ask students to choose one of their favorite type of balls

§  With that ball, have the teacher kneel on the floor and form a basket with their arms and have students throw ball and see if they can make it in the basket.

§  After practice, graduate from the knees and move to standing on feet.  This should be more challenging because it is higher.

End

-          Have students run and collect all the different items used in today’s lesson and place them in the bag.
